Breath of Dawn

I started this painting two years ago. The vision was a singular, yet very soft breath of air. If you can imagine a very gentle angel breathing life into your lungs, that is the feeling which this canvas held for me.
I primed the canvas with Venetian Red and brushed in the shadows of the marsh with the opposing green olive.  Like imagery from a dream emerging from a fog, a distant mass of marsh grasses appeared off in the center.
Breath of Dawn layoutThis canvas (shown left) has been in my studio for two years; hung in my bedroom, even exhibited in one of my galleries. Initially I painted the pink light in the sky with a much stronger, intense color than what you see now ~ Vermillion mixed with Naples Yellow.

Last week, I stopped by a friend’s house down the road. A brilliantly beautiful, sunny October day, I was captivated by the view of Chapel Creek and the Piankatank River behind her house.
